Brown County
Brown County was created by legislation in 1817 from parts of Adams and Clermont counties and named for Jacob Brown. Georgetown was laid out in 1819, became the seat in 1821 and incorporated in 1832. Its courthouse dates to 1852, while railway service added a later connection beginning in 1886. These milestones connect the planned town with the public institutions and transportation routes that helped it serve the wider county over successive generations.
Begin in Georgetown with the courthouse and historic-district story, then keep the county's Ohio River setting in view for a broader perspective. The earlier Adams and Clermont County connections are useful when following records from before the county was established. Check current local information before visiting particular historic properties. A focused outing can connect the village's planned center with one later chapter, such as railway development, rather than treating every landmark as part of the same period.
